A security breach affects Google Photos for Android TVPublié le
A rather embarrassing bug has been reported to the Mountain View company and it concerns the Google Photos application for TVs equipped with Android TV. Indeed, users have reported seeing profiles of other people appear when browsing through Google Photos settings. We will explain everything to you in detail.
If you have a TV with Android TV then you have probably found several uses for it in addition to watching shows. Indeed, it has become extremely easy to show photos to friends and family and display them on TV using the Google Home application, if the images are stored on Google Photos. It is even possible to see them scrolling via the TV screensaver.
It was precisely by looking through the settings of his connected television that a user noticed a problem: his Android television was strangely connected to an impressive list of contacts he didn’t know. According to him, private photos of these same accounts could appear on his television screensaver at random.
When I access my Vu Android TV through the @Google Home app, and check the linked accounts, it basically lists what I imagine is every single person who owns this television. This is shocking incompetence. pic.twitter.com/5DGwrArsco– prashanth (@wothadei) March 3, 2019
The television in question is of the VU brand, it has Android 7.0 Nougat and has not been updated since December 2017. Google has temporarily disabled Google Photos for Android TV while waiting to find the cause of the problem. At the moment, we do not know if all television brands are affected.
