How to use WhatsApp on multiple devices simultaneously?

Publié le

Between the thorny issue of fakes news and the deployment of new features, the last few months have been busy for WhatsApp developers. However, WhatsApp does not intend to rest on its laurels. In fact, a new feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta. This is the multi-device option that allows a WhatsApp account to be synchronized across multiple devices.

The Multi-device option was identified by WABetainfo in the WhatsApp 2.20.143 beta. It would allow you to use your WhatsApp account on a second device. References to this new feature have been linked to older features in preparation for its arrival. WABetainfo has published screenshots where WhatsApp recommends using a WI-FI connection to connect to a new device.

At this time, there is no certainty about the reasons for this recommendation. The specialty site speculates that WhatsApp will copy the entire history of discussions about the new device. This can be time consuming and expensive in terms of mobile data, especially if the chat history includes videos and photos. This will be confirmed in the next few days or weeks depending on the progress of WhatsApp developers.

One thing is certain, at the time of writing this article, the feature is not yet active. It is still in development and no one knows when it will be available to everyone in beta or stable.

If you are waiting for this feature, please note that it is already possible to clone a WhatsApp account. As you know, WhatsApp is available on the desktop and on the web. Both versions of WhatsApp allow you to synchronize your discussions between your computer and your smartphone. But what about tablets or other mobile devices?

Currently WhatsApp does not offer a tablet client for tablets. However, third party developers are already offering applications that port the web-based version of WhatsApp to an Android device. WhatsApp Web To Go is one of them. For those who want to take a look at the application source code, visit the developer’s GitHub.

Here’s how to use it:

  • Install WhatsApp Web To Go on your second device, such as an Android tablet.
  • Open WhatsApp from the first device (your primary phone).
  • From the main chat page, go to the menu (three small dots) and then WhatsApp Web. The WhatsApp QR code scanner will appear.
  • Return to the second device, launch WhatsApp Web To Go. A QR code will display. If not, expand the side menu at the top left and go to the “reload” function to display the QR code page. Make sure you are connected to the internet.
  • Once the code is scanned, the synchronization will start automatically.
