Microsoft would consider separating Cortana from the Windows search module

Since the release of Windows 10, Microsoft has integrated Cortana, its personal assistant, into the operating system. However, the arrival of this tool did not appeal to everyone. Some users fear that Cortana may be a little too curious about user data. And above all, the personal assistant was placed directly in the Windows search module, which could make some common tasks cumbersome. However, Microsoft may consider making some changes to the location of Cortana.

Cortana still there but elsewhere

It was a tweet from Albatross, a user known to be very attentive to changes in Windows 10 for future updates, who mentioned the separation of the search module and Cortana for the next update of Windows 10, that is, for spring 2019.

The idea is to allow the Windows search module to have only one function: to easily find the documents the user is looking for. Cortana, on the other hand, will have access to its own space, probably in the notification center or start menu. Albatross shared some screenshots to illustrate his point: it is clear that the document search space no longer houses Cortana.

As always, the information is to be taken with a grain of salt. Indeed, Microsoft has not formalized anything and it is possible that it is only an essay that is never included in the final version dedicated to the general public. To be continued…
