Oracle responds to SAP by releasing its 12.1c database
Publié leLarry J. Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, announced that the next version of the famous Oracle database will be in-memory and columnar. It is in order to compete even more with SAP that Redwood Shores’ company plans to launch this new version.
This is not Oracle’s first attempt at SAP. Last year, Oracle launched Exalytics and Exadata to compete with Hana, SAP’s in-memory analysis system. However, this attempt did not bear fruit; an email from an SAP spokesperson, mentioned by PCWorld, states that Hana has grown faster than Exadata and offers much better services.
It is with this in mind that the company will provide its famous database with in-memory analysis capacity. In the words of its CEO, the next release of Oracle Database will be a “in-memory database, very fast, compressed and columnar”. This announcement was made during the presentation of the Company’s financial results.
A question remains unresolved: why Oracle has not integrated this functionality into Oracle 12c, the future successor to Oracle 11g, which is coming out soon? Equipping Oracle 12.1c with this new feature could cause the company to lag behind its SAP competitor.
