These features will disappear with Windows 10 May 2019 Update

While Microsoft communicates extensively about the new features introduced by Windows 10 May 2019 Update, the Redmond firm is used to ignore the tools and features that are deleted. Indeed, Microsoft takes advantage of major updates to clean up its operating system and remove everything that is obsolete or simply no longer necessary. The May 2019 Update is no exception to the rule and we will explain all this in more detail.

Removed features

Compared to previous updates, the list of what has been removed is very small. There are two things to note, however:

  • The remote desktop display tool now uses a WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) driver instead of an XDDM driver that will soon be removed.
  • The Windows 10 messaging application no longer allows you to synchronize messages from a Windows Mobile device to keep a copy. From now on, the user has access only to the messages that the device has received.

Discontinued features

Some features will no longer be developed by Microsoft and will soon be removed from Windows 10.

For example, Wi-Fi networks protected only by WEP or TKIP will cause a warning message to appear on Windows 10. In the long term, the system will no longer be able to connect to these networks and it will be necessary to update its router.

The WindowsToGo feature (which allows the system to boot from a hard disk or USB stick) has been officially dropped.

As for the Print 3D application, it will soon be put aside and replaced by 3D Builder.

While these changes may seem trivial, they also lighten the system by removing obsolete elements that take up unnecessary space in Windows 10. Feel free to read our article on what’s new in Windows 10 May 2019 Update to learn more about what the update brings.
