Windows File Recovery
Windows File Recovery is a file recovery software developed by Microsoft. This is the first time that the Redmond firm has offered such a data recovery utility for Windows 10.
How to use Windows File Recovery?
Windows File Recovery is offered as a command line tool. It is recommended that you run it as an administrator. The software does not (yet?) have an advanced graphical user interface like third-party data recovery software. The utility offers three recovery modes as follows:
- By default: use the NTFS file system’s Master File Table (MFT) which displays a list of files on the storage device to find the lost ones.
- Segment : No use of MFT. The tool will simply use segments. These are summary information of files that can also be found in the MFT (name, date, file type, size.).
- Signature: Works without MFT and without segments (not relevant for small files).
